Rising Tensions in Canada: Pro-India Hindutva Mobs Clash with Police, Arrests Made Amid Attacks on Sikh Community

Updated: 3 days ago

In recent days, pro-India Hindutva extremist mobs have taken to the streets in multiple Canadian cities, inciting violence and targeting Sikh Gurdwaras, Sikh-owned businesses, and members of the public. These groups have reportedly harassed residents, attacked vehicles, and brandished weapons, leading Canadian authorities to declare their gatherings unlawful assemblies. Police intervened to prevent one group from marching toward a Sikh Gurdwara.

In Brampton, clashes erupted as Canadian police were reportedly attacked by a pro-India mob, allegedly linked to Hindutva supporters, many of whom are recent immigrants on student visas. Similarly, in Surrey, several Hindu nationalists were arrested after attacking police officers and chanting slogans against the Surrey Police and Canada.

This surge of violence followed an incident in which Sikh activists, who were protesting alleged Indian government involvement in violence against Sikhs in Canada, were reportedly attacked by pro-Hindutva mobs. The clash quickly escalated between the two groups, with Canadian authorities attempting to manage the heightened tensions.

Meanwhile, Indian media and government outlets are reportedly pushing a counter-narrative, suggesting that Sikhs attacked a Hindu temple, in an attempt to sway international opinion through media manipulation and propaganda. Canadian law enforcement continues to investigate these incidents as tensions remain high.
