Washington, D.C. — Authorities are investigating the apparent suicide of a senior official from the Indian Embassy after his body was discovered late Wednesday night. The incident occurred at the Indian Embassy, located at 2107 Massachusetts Avenue NW.
Emergency services were called at 10:19 p.m. when fire crews responded to reports of an unresponsive individual. According to paramedics, the man appeared to have died by hanging and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.
The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed officers were dispatched shortly after 10 p.m. for reports of a deceased person. A police spokesperson stated that no foul play is suspected and that an investigation into the death is ongoing.
The U.S. Secret Service also responded due to the sensitive location of the incident. Both the Secret Service and the Indian Embassy have yet to provide further comment on the matter.
