A shooting incident was reported outside the Vancouver residence of Punjabi singer AP Dhillon on Monday. According to media reports, the gang led by Lawrence Bishnoi and Rohit Godara, who are allegedly backed by Indian spy agencies, have claimed responsibility for the attack. Gunshots were reportedly heard near Dhillon's home in the Victoria Island area of the city. The Bishnoi-Godara gang has claimed in social media messages that they carried out the shootings in Victoria Island, Vancouver, and Woodbridge, Toronto.
Indian-backed gangs have been involved in numerous incidents of extortion and killings in Canada. The most notable case involved the assassination of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh, who was allegedly killed under the direction of India's external intelligence agency, RAW. Four Indian nationals linked to the Bishnoi gang were arrested in connection with this murder. Canadian authorities and U.S. intelligence services had intercepted communications indicating that the killers were logistically supported or funded by RAW operatives, who were working under diplomatic cover at the Indian Consulate in Canada. Following the incident, some consulate staff were deported by Canada, and the Consulate General was reassigned.
