Shiv Sena (Shinde) Punjab Demands Ban on Kirpans Over 9 Inches After Attack on Controversial Member

A Hindu Extremist group called Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) in Punjab has demanded a ban on kirpans longer than 9 inches following an attack on Sandeep Thapar, a controversial member accused of spreading violence and hate against Sikhs and other minorities. Harish Singla, the chief of the Shiv Sena Bal Thackeray Shinde Group in Punjab, made this demand, stating that if the government does not impose this restriction, they will take the matter to the Supreme Court.

Singla, who was the main culprit behind inciting violence and hatred in 2022, has been making controversial and derogatory comments aimed at provoking the Sikh community and gaining attention and validation from Hindutva extremists. The kirpan, a ceremonial sword, is a significant article of faith for Sikhs, and any restrictions on its length could lead to major religious and legal disputes.
