Punjab Police and Government Claim Jailed Pro-Khalistan MP Amritpal Singh Poses 'Serious Threat' to CM Bhagwant Mann's Life: Oppose His Release

On Saturday, the Punjab Police and government submitted an affidavit to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, claiming that jailed radical Sikh preacher and pro-Khalistan MP Amritpal Singh, along with his associates, poses a serious threat to the life of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. They also emphasized the risk of disruption to law and order across the state.

The affidavit, which includes video evidence recorded outside Ajnala police station, asserts that Amritpal Singh's past actions demonstrate a likelihood of further violence. "If he were to take the law into his own hands and harm those who oppose his ideology, as he has done in the past, a severe breakdown of law and order, threatening public safety and state security, would likely occur," the police stated.

This submission is part of the police's response to petitions from Amritpal Singh's associates, Sarabjeet Singh Kalsi and Gurmeet Singh Gill, who are challenging fresh detention orders issued by the Punjab government in March 2024 under the National Security Act (NSA).
