Indian Nationals Abjeet Kingra and Vikram Sharma Charged in Shooting and Arson at AP Dhillon’s Residence; Alleged Links to Bishnoi Gang Amid India-Canada Tensions

Updated: 3 days ago

On October 30, 2024, Canadian authorities arrested Abjeet Kingra, a 25-year-old Indian national from Winnipeg, in connection with a shooting and arson incident targeting the residence of Punjabi singer AP Dhillon in Colwood, British Columbia. The incident, which took place on September 2, 2024, involved multiple gunshots fired at Dhillon’s residence in the 3300 block of Ravenwood Road and two vehicles set ablaze outside the property.

The Bishnoi Gang, a criminal organization believed to be involved in cross-border activities, allegedly claimed responsibility for the incident. According to police reports, officers responding to the scene in September found two vehicles on fire and evidence of gunshots. One resident was safely evacuated from the home as the Colwood Fire Department contained the vehicle fires.

Kingra has been charged with Discharge of a Firearm with Intent and Arson and was arrested in Ontario. He is expected to make a court appearance in Ontario. Meanwhile, authorities have also issued an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Vikram Sharma, another Indian national who last resided in Winnipeg. Police believe Sharma has escaped to India.

These arrests come amid rising tensions between Canada and India, with the RCMP recently asserting that Indian intelligence may be involved in criminal activities and interference in Canada, allegedly targeting members of the Sikh community.
